Lough Coffee Roasters
Our Story
It started with a popcorn popper, a bag of green coffee beans, and nothing to lose.
Kevin Lough has been a coffee drinker for as long as he can remember. Not the grab-it-and-go kind — the kind who actually thinks about what's in the cup. So it probably shouldn't surprise anyone who knows him that one day he decided drinking coffee just wasn't enough. He wanted to understand it.
It started, as many great things do, with something completely ridiculous. Kevin's first roaster wasn't a roaster at all. It was a popcorn popper. He'd read somewhere that it could work, picked up a bag of green coffee beans, and figured he had nothing to lose. Those first batches were rough. Some came out light and sour, others dark and bitter, and more than a few ended up in the trash. But every now and then, something clicked. A roast would come out just right, and Kevin would take that first sip and think: yeah, that's it.
That feeling kept him going. Over time, he outgrew the popcorn popper and moved on to proper coffee roasting equipment, learning along the way how much a bean's origin matters, how small changes in temperature and timing can shift an entire flavor profile, and how deeply satisfying it is to take something raw and make it into something worth savoring.
He started sharing what he made — first with family, then with friends, then with folks at church. Nobody asked him to. He just couldn't help it. That's the thing about Kevin: when he finds something he loves, he wants the people around him to experience it too. Those early bags passed over kitchen tables and church fellowship halls became the foundation of something none of us fully saw coming.
Lough Coffee Roasters wasn't born out of a business plan. It grew out of a passion, a popcorn popper, and a whole lot of people who kept asking for more.
